Cellar Door Fest:

Award winning Gruner:
Gruner Veltliner is a native Austrian white grape variety, that is best suited to climatic conditions with warm days and cool night, hence why the Adelaide Hills was chosen to be the Gruner capital of the southern hemisphere. A huge thanks to Larry and Marc at Hahndorf Hill who had the foresight to see the potential of Gruner Veltliner in the Adelaide Hills, and imported a number of clones directly from Austria. Mt Bera was chosen to be one of the first vineyards to plant this variety back in 2010/11. This year Winestate magazine in conjunction with the Austrian Wine marketing board conducted the Global Gruner challenge, in which there 145 entries from across the world. The judging panel included one judge from Austria. Of the 145 were entries, 8 wines achieved a full five star rating – 6 from Austria and 2 from Australia.

Vineyard Cottage BnB:
Our Vineyard Cottage BnB, is a self-contained, 1880’s local stone cottage, in an idyllic location within the outskirts of Gumeracha, an approximate 45–minute scenic drive from Adelaide. The cottage has ducted reverse cycle air-conditioning throughout, and contains 4 bedrooms, with a capacity to hold a maximum of 8 adults. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen with a dining table and chairs to seat 8, 2 bathrooms (an ensuite and main bathroom), a lounge room with an open fireplace and wood provided for the winter, as well as a BBQ and verandah which allows beautiful views overlooking the gardens and grounds. Vineyard Update:
Vintage 2019 is underway. Here’s Luka and Kali during our first pick of the season. So far we have picked Pinot Gris, Sauv Blanc, Gruner Veltliner earlier pick, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, and some Tempranillo for Rose’. Hot conditions this week have hastened the picking and all look good at this stage. Looking forward to the heat subsiding after Saturday.
It looks set to be a fantastic year, it has been a long, dry summer with coolish nights and so the grapes are of high quality, sure to have intense flavours.
